My African Dream

Part of the Landscapes of my mind exhibition at Art Eye Gallery 11 June 2014

Oil on canvas 2m x 1.35m Part of the Landscapes of my mind exhibition at Art Eye Gallery on exhibit on the 11th June 2014

People have asked me whether the vibrant orange in this painting are the flowers of the West Coast… But I had never been to the West Coast, have never seen the flowers in their abundance adorn the endless fields of the Karoo.

In preparation for my art exhibition next week, this work was one of the first works to be produced and was begun months before I even knew that I wanted to travel to the Karoo for the first time or had taken my roadtrip. The title for this painting allocated before I had even seen this part of the world. It came from my mind, a vision perhaps of googled yearnings and trips on the internet to far-off places.

Little was I to know in the beginning, that I would find my way into the endless beauty and fall in love with a spookhuis in Victoria West in the middle of the Karoo and make plans to settle there.

About Jenny Reyneke Art

My earliest memories are of pens, paper, paint, pastels and poetry. They delight me still.
