when i am an artist in the karoo
i will live in a spookhuis on a hill with a verandah going right the way …
all around
so that i can watch the sun rise over a little one street village to my right
and watch it sink into the bosom of earth on my left.
and i will sip coffee, warming my hands with their blue stained fingernails,
curled up on my couch on the stoep wrapped in my long black paint splattered trench coat…
a remnant of corporate days – gone to colour.

when i am an artist in the karoo
i will teach the town children to paint.
we will set up our classroom in the middle of a blue shadow street
perhaps even their street and i will…
